Position: Point Guard
College: Xavier University, 1997
Highschool: Bishop Laughlin
Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
My name is Sherwin Anderson. From 1986-1992 I played for the New York Gauchos where I became one of the top point guards in the country.
I attended Bishop Loughlin where I am inducted into their Hall of Fame and then went on to Xavier University in Cincinnati Oh, graduating with my Masters in 1997.
I am extremely thankful for the life lessons I gained while playing for the Gauchos. I was a poor kid from brooklyn and did not realize my potential as an Athlete, but the gauchos open my eyes to a world that I did not realize existed. We traveled around the United States from Florida, Texas, California, Las Vegas and Hawaii, We went out of the country to France where I was introduced to European basketball. I was given a chance to play at a catholic school that otherwise my parents couldn’t pay for. It marketed me to over 100 colleges helping me receive a 4 year college scholarship. It introduced me to some life long friends I still stay in contact with, but most importantly it gave me a chance to better my life.
Blessings to The Gauchos and coaches for the work they have done to help so many young kids like myself.
