On January 27th,28th and 29th, at the Gaucho Gym, The Lady Choz,

in conjunction with Scanlan High School, were proud to present

The 2017 Mecca High School Challenge:

a collection of Girls’ high school basketball teams

from all along the East Coast.

New this year was the International challenge,

with 4 teams traveling from Canada to come to compete under the

bright lights of New York City!

The tournament highlighted teams ranked in various polls among the best the area has to offer including:

Christ the King, Ossining, South Shore, Mary Louis, and Baldwin from New York

and Capitol Prep from CT, and Franklin from NJ.

The International challenge will showcase the best talent in Canada

and highlight prep teams all along the east coast area including:

Carolina Prep, Life Academy, Riverdale Baptist, Forest Trail, Blair and Rock Creek,

while Canada counters with: Lincoln Prep, St. Laurent, Durham, and Bill Crothers Prep.

The collection of talent in this years tournament was unmatched in the region

as there were over 50 Division 1 players competing,

many who have already signed on to BCS schools with the likes of

the University of Connecticut (UCONN) and Notre Dame leading the way!

The Mecca Challenge has become the biggest event in girls basketball

in New York City and it is growing every year!

We also had a beverage sponsors “ICEBYRD” who supplied our fans

with water and Ice tea that went over very well.

Congratulations to Coach Earl Elliot and his staff and volunteers

who ran the event with class and grace.

This year we dedicated the event

In memory of a Fallen Lady Choz:

8th Grade Standout Player

Shamoya McKenzie

Who lost her life to gun violence.

You Are Remembered.
